1.0 PURPOSE:
To lay down a procedure for Operation, cleaning and calibration of Muffle Furnace.

4.0 RESPONSIBILITY:
4.1 Analyst to operate/clean/calibrate Muffle Furnace as per the SOP of the instrument.
4.2 Head of the Department (or) designee is responsible for ensuring compliance to SOP.
5.0 PROCEDURE:
5.1 Operation procedure:
5.1.1 Ensure that the chamber and muffle furnace is properly cleaned or not.
5.1.2 Check the calibration status before going to operate.
5.1.3 Switch ON the main power supply to the instruments, Mains lamp will glow.
5.1.4 Before switching ON the Muffle furnace ensure that the door is closed.
5.1.5 Switch ON the instrument by using ON / OFF key.
5.1.6 To set the specific temperature press the SET button on temperature controller for 2 seconds.
5.1.7 Set the temperature by pressing the Up and down arrow buttons
Note: If red colour indicator is ON means heating element is ON.
5.1.8 Wait to attain the set temperature and allow it to stabilize for at least 30 minutes.
5.1.9 The instrument will be initialized and shows the set temperature and actual temperature on display.
5.1.10 Place the object inside the muffle furnace chamber properly with the help of Forceps.
5.1.11 Close the door of the muffle furnace properly.
5.1.12 Wait for required time and after completion open the Muffle Furnace door & remove the object with the help of forceps.
5.1.13 After completion of the test switch off the Mains of the instrument and main supply.
5.2 Temperature Verification of muffle furnace:
5.2.1 Temperature Verification for muffle furnace is to be done by external agency at the set temperature 400°C, 600°C and 1000°C.
5.2.2 After verification the same shall be reported in the Annexure-I.
5.2.3 Acceptance criteria: -L 20°C of set value.
5.2.4 Verification Frequency: Once in 2 years + 30 days or after any major maintenance work.
