1.0 PURPOSE:

This procedure is applicable for operation and cleaning of vacuum pump used in (Company name).
3.0 DEFINITIONS:
4.0 RESPONSIBILITY:
4.1 Analyst/Microbiologist: The analyst/microbiologist is responsible for execution of the procedure specified in this SOP.
4.2 Executive/designee: Executive /designee is responsible for ensuring that, procedure followed for usage and maintenance of equipment.
4.3 Head quality control: The Head quality control is responsible for review and approval of the procedure specified in the SOP and ensure that the Procedure mentioned in the document is followed.
4.4 Quality assurance: The QA is responsible for over all compliance of the procedure mentioned in the SOP.
5.0 PROCEDURE:
5.1 Preliminary check:
5.1.1 Check and ensure that the equipment is clean and suitable for starting the operation. If it is not, clean with a soft cloth duster dipped in routine disinfectant.
5.1.2 Do not allow the pump to contact any petroleum or hydrocarbon based product.
5.1.3 During filtration always use a vacuum flask water trap in conjunction with the pump, thus to prevent the excessive amount of liquids entering from vacuum pump.
5.1.4 Prepare the necessary equipment or filter holder and connect the tubing to the equipment. Do not connect to the pump.
5.1.5 While running, the pump surrounding should have proper ventilation.
5.1.6 Do not lubricate the pump with any part with oil, grease or petroleum products.
5.2 Basic operation:
5.2.1 Ensure that the pump is connected to 230 V, single phase AC supply.
5.2.2 Connect the tubing from the filter holder or other equipment to the vacuum trap, which is connected to the pump.
5.2.3 Start the filtration.
5.2.4 After completion of filtration, run the pump for about 30 seconds freely and then turn “OFF” the pump.
5.2.5 Disassemble the tubing first from the pump, then from the filter holder or other equipment.
