Procedure for Safety and precautions in warehouse

1.0 PURPOSE:

To define the procedure for safety and precautions in warehouse.

2.0 SCOPE:

This procedure for safety and precautions in warehouse is applicable to warehouse department of (Company name).

3.0 REFERENCE:

4.0 DEFINITION:

Warehouse safety is a regulatory guideline and industry best practice to help warehousing personnel to ensure a safe work environment.

5.0 RESPONSIBILITY:

5.1 Personnel of warehouse is responsible for execution of the procedure.
5.2 Head warehouse is responsible for overall compliance of the procedure. 

6.0 PROCEDURE:

6.1 Material safety and precaution: 

6.1.1 All the bags and containers should be identified with material status label.
6.1.2 Label shall be read carefully before handling/issuing the materials.
6.1.3 Keep the materials as per the storage conditions; avoid storage in open condition. Ensure that the material is protected from sun-light and are not damaged.
6.1.4 Keep the materials in their original containers.
6.1.5 Check the containers for any kind of leakage.
6.1.6 Care should be taken while handling the materials and lifting the pallets.
6.1.7 Keep all the empty pallets on the floor in horizontal position.
6.1.8 Raw material containers shall be opened only inside the controlled environmental area.

6.2 Personnel safety and precautions:

6.2.1 Safety precaution shall be taken while entering to the warehouse area.
6.2.2 During material handling, all concerned personnel shall follow the gowning procedure, wearing hand gloves, safety goggles and safety shoes (wherever applicable).
6.2.3 Always handle the warehouse equipment (i.e. Trolleys, Forklifts/order pickers/Scissor Lift Table etc.) safely.
6.2.4 Ensure that ladders are inspected before initial use in each work shift and that they are parallel, level and uniformly spaced when in position for use.
6.2.5 Load shall be placed properly in the racks and heavier loads must be stacked on lower or middle shelves.
6.2.6 Check the due date of refilling of fire extinguishers and ensure that no material is kept in front of the fire extinguisher.
