4.1 Analyst: Responsible for execution of the procedure specified in this SOP.
4.2 Head Quality Control: Responsible for ensuring the compliance of the SOP.

Operation and cleaning: as when required.

6.0 PROCEDURE:
6.1 Operation:
6.1.1 Ensure that fuming hood is clean and no other activity is under operation in hood.
6.1.2 Open the glass door up to comfort height for the work by pushing door to slightly to up side.
6.1.3 ON the exhaust of the hood by pressing green button.
6.1.4 Connect the instrument (hot plate, water bath muffle furnace etc.) with main power supply.
6.1.5 Operate the test work as per standard test procedure in the hood chamber.
6.1.6 Remove the test sample from hood and close the front glass door to down position and switch off the exhaust.
6.1.7 Perform all preparation or analysis which can produce fume under fume hood only.
6.1.8 Work involving the evolution of harmful and obnoxious vapors shall be carried out in a fume cupboard.
6.1.9 After completion of work clean the hood.
6.1.10 Ensure that instrument is clean and free from dust.
6.2 Cleaning:
6.2.1 The exhaust system of the fume cupboard shall be checked frequently to ensure that it is in order.
6.2.2 Proper functioning of fuming hood is essential to maintain laboratory, pollution free operation.
6.2.3 Make the fuming hood clear of all corrosive acids and chemicals, remove glass condensers, tongs etc.
6.2.4 Clean the exterior and top of the fume chamber, first by sweeping the top and deusting with cloth.
6.2.5 Shut off power supply from mains and clean the exhaust ducting with brush whenever required.
6.2.6 Clean the tube light and surface of fuming hood with a piece of cloth.
6.3 Verification:
6.3.1 Perform the daily verification at the starting of the shift.
6.3.2 Check the fuming hood is clean from unwanted material or not.
6.3.3 Start the exhaust fan and check the air flow by placing a paper under the exhaust fan.
6.3.4 Switch ON the tube light, and check if it is working or not.
6.3.5 If any abnormally is observed then intimate to engineering department.
6.3.6 If the paint on interior surface has become dull or having stains, arrange for re-painting.
6.4 Precaution:
6.4.1 Ensure that there are no inflammable chemicals present in the hood chamber.
6.4.2 Clean the fume hood after disconnecting all electric power.
6.4.3 Use strong acid carefully in hood chamber.
