1.0 PURPOSE:
To lay down the procedure for operation and verification of Eye Washer and safety shower.
2.0 SCOPE:
This procedure is applicable for the Operation of Eye Washer and safety shower in Quality Control Department at (Company name).

Execution: Trainee to Officer QC.
Checking: Executive QC or Designee.
Accountability: Head QC/ Designee.
6.0 FREQUENCY:
Operation: As and when required.
Verification: Daily
7.0 PROCEDURE:
7.1 For Eye Washer:
7.1.1 In case of any accident or any irritation in eyes during handling of reagents, solvents or at the time of solvents preparation in the laboratory, the affected person should go immediately to the washing area and should lean on the eye washer.
7.1.2 Push the handle of the eye washer for the outlet of water and keep open eyes in front of the eye washer.
7.1.3 Wash the eyes by using water with control pressure.
7.1.4 Keep on washing about 5 minutes until the fumes or chemical totally washed out.
7.1.5 If the irritation still persists, then the affected person should consult the Head QC for doctor’s treatment.
7.2 For Safety Shower:
7.2.1 In case of any accident with any person, during working in laboratory, like spilling of acids or any other hazardous chemicals, in contact of any part of body, the affected person should go immediately to the washing area and just stand under the shower.
7.2.2 Pull the handle for the outlet of water from the shower.
7.2.3 The affected person should continue washing until he / she gets relief.
7.2.4 Push the handle after use.
7.2.5 If required, the affected person should consult the Head QC for doctor’s treatment.
7.3 Daily Verification Procedure of safety shower and eye washer:
7.3.1 Daily safety shower and eye washer verification shall be performed twice. Firstly, once in the morning (between 09:00 hrs to 11:00 hrs) and then in the evening (between 14:00 hrs to 16:00 hrs) and record the observation in Annexure-I. (Daily verification checklist of Safety shower and eye washer).
7.3.2 First verify the physical condition of shower and washer, by checking for any leakage or damage. Then check the performance by opening the eye washer, observe the water flow for 1 minutes and then close the eye washer. Then open the safety shower for 1 minutes and observe the shower flow. If the water flow is sufficient for eye wash and shower then record the observation in the checklist as satisfactory.
7.3.3 In case the flow of water is not sufficient then inform to the engineering department.
