Procedure for hydrostatic test for pipe lines

1.0 PURPOSE:

To lay down the Procedure for Hydrostatic test for pipe lines.

2.0 SCOPE:

This procedure applies for Hydrostatic test for all the MS, SS, PP and GI pipe lines (Company name).

3.0 DEFINITIONS:

4.0 RESPONSIBILITY:

4.1 Engineering personnel shall responsible for Hydrostatic test for pipe lines.
4.2 Engineering head shall responsible to ensure compliance. 

5.0 PROCEDURE:

5.1 Ensure that all pipe line joints and flanges are tightened properly. 
5.2 Ensure that all the valves and other connected parts are isolated.
5.3 During the application of the test pressure, all in line valves shall be in an open position.
5.4 Ensure that both the end of the test pipes are closed.
5.5 Connect the pressure test pump to the testing pipe.
5.6 Fill the water in the pipe lines.
5.7 Release the Air lock if required.
5.8 Start the pump to pressurize the pipe line pressure.
5.9 Apply the pressure till it is 1.5 times of working pressure.
5.10 Check for any leaks from the flanges, joints and valves.
5.11 Hold pressure in the pipe lines for 24 hours.
5.12 After 24 hours of hold, check for any pressure drop in the line.
5.13 Take corrective action if any pressure drop is observed and repeat the procedure to confirm for no leakages.
