Procedure for HVAC duct cleaning and leak test

1.0 PURPOSE:

To lay down the Procedure for HVAC Duct cleaning and leak Test.

2.0 SCOPE:

This procedure applies for HVAC Duct cleaning and leak Test at (Company name).

3.0 DEFINITIONS:

Nil.

4.0 RESPONSIBILITY:

4.1 Engineering personnel shall responsible for HVAC Duct cleaning and leak Test.
4.2 Engineering head shall responsible to ensure compliance. 

5.0 PROCEDURE:

5.1 Frequency:

5.1.1 The HVAC duct cleaning and leak test shall be done initially at the time of installation. 

5.2 Prerequisites for smoke test:

5.2.1 Ensure that all duct joint flanges are provided with proper gaskets and galvanized nut bolts with plain and spring washers.
5.2.2 Visually inspect the ducts externally, no damage of ducts or dents should be visible. If any duct is found damaged, the same shall be rectified or replaced with new ducts before carrying out the smoke test. 

5.3 Test procedure:

5.3.1 Clean all the ducts (from inside) of debris, ducts etc.
5.3.2 Provide dead ends at both ends of the length being subjected to smoke testing.
5.3.3 At another dead end provide a provision for connecting the smoke generator.
5.3.4 At a stretch not more than 20 Rmt. of ducts shall be subjected to smoke testing.
5.3.5 Connect the smoke generator and start the smoke generation.
5.3.6 Use dry ice to generate the smoke.
5.3.7 The smoke generator shall operate and generate smoke for at least 10 minutes continuously.
5.3.8 Visually inspect the duct for smoke leakage especially through seam joints, flanges, nuts & bolts etc. if any abnormalities observed rectify the same by tightening or applying sealant.
5.3.9 Record the observation as per the Annexure-I.
5.3.10 Ducts shall by identify in terms of area classified and supply or return duct.
5.3.11 Identify the ducts in the drawing (which are subjected to smoke test) and a copy of relevant portion of drawing shall be enclosed.
