Procedure for Disposal of waste materials

1.0 PURPOSE:

To define the procedure for disposal of waste materials in warehouse.

2.0 SCOPE:

This procedure for disposal of waste materials in warehouse is applicable to warehouse department at (Company name).

3.0 REFERENCE:

NIL

4.0 DEFINITION:

Waste: The used materials or things which are not useful for any process at factory premises are called waste.

Disposal: Operation which does not lead to recycling, recovery or reuse.

5.0 RESPONSIBILITY:

5.1 Personnel of warehouse is responsible for execution of the procedure.
5.2 Head warehouse is responsible for overall compliance of the procedure. 

6.0 PROCEDURE:

6.1 Generation:

6.1.1 The following areas are the generating points for waste.
6.1.1.1 Receipt area
6.1.1.2 RM Stores
6.1.1.3 PM Stores
6.1.1.4 Dispensing area
6.1.2 Discarded polythene bags, cargo labels and shrink films generated while de-dusting of receipt materials in receipt area.
6.1.3 Discarded polyethylene bags generated while dispensing of raw material and packaging material.
6.1.4 Discarded fiber drums, HDPE and aluminum containers, carry strap, seals/cable tie, aluminum rings of containers and BOPP tape pieces generated while dispensing and sampling of raw and packaging material.
6.1.5 The discarded labels from containers of raw materials and packs of packaging materials.
6.1.6 Used status labels of raw and packaging material.
6.1.7 Used disposable hand gloves, shoe covers and caps (if any).

6.2 Handling:
6.2.1 Collect all the discarded polybag and shrink film scraps in receipt area and put in a polybag; other waste papers/cargo label scraps shall be collected separately and put in a polybag.
6.2.2 Tie the polybag, affix ‘waste for disposal label’ and send to the scrap yard.
6.2.3 The used raw material polybags after dispensing shall be collected separately and affix ‘waste for disposal label’ and transfer to scrap yard.
6.2.4 Drum seals, hand gloves, nose masks, shoe covers and disposal caps (if any) used in raw material dispensing area shall be put in waste bin.
6.2.5 Collect the wastes in polybag, affix ‘waste for disposal label’ and transfer to the scrap yard.
6.2.6 Close the lid of the defaced empty HDPE drums with rings/fiber drums with rings/aluminium containers (if any) and transfer to the scrap yard.
6.2.7 Other scraps (e.g. BOPP tape pieces, corrugated boxes, used labels and cable tie etc.) generated in packaging material dispensing area shall be collected in a polybag and affix ‘waste for disposal label’ and send to scrap yard.
6.2.8 ‘Waste for disposal label’ shall be affixed as per Annexure-I.
6.2.9 Any used label or container label or printed matter on the containers/packs must be defaced before transferring to the scrap yard.
6.2.10 All the scraps generated in warehouse area must be manually segregated and labelled as ‘waste for disposal label’ accordingly and send to scrap yard.

6.3 Destruction:

6.3.1 Used labels shall be cut into pieces.
6.3.2 Unwanted paper scarps must be cut in to pieces before sending to scrap yard.
6.3.3 Waste shrink films/polybags must be segregated separately in a polybag and send to scrap yard.
6.3.4 Transfer and stack the HDPE/fiber containers and corrugated boxes in scrap yard.

7.0 ABBREVIATIONS:
