Procedure for cleaning of underground raw water storage and fire hydrants water tank

1.0 PURPOSE:

To lay down the procedure for cleaning of underground raw water storage and Fire Hydrants water tank.

2.0 SCOPE:

This procedure for cleaning of underground raw water storage and Fire Hydrants water tank is applicable to (Company name).

3.0 DEFINITIONS:

Nil.

4.0 RESPONSIBILITY:

4.1 Engineering personnel shall responsible for cleaning of underground raw water storage and Fire Hydrants water tank.
4.2 Engineering head shall responsible to ensure compliance. 

5.0 PROCEDURE:

5.1 Inform all user departments before starting the cleaning activity.
5.2 Close the process water inlet valve & put “Under Sanitization” Board on the pump.
5.3 Open the drain valve of the tank & drain the water.
5.4 Clean the tank with nylon / wire brush and ensure the sludge is cleaned completely.
5.5 Rinse the tank with water.
5.6 Again clean the tank with 4 % sodium hypochlorite solution, drain it.
5.7 Rinse the tank with water and flush the tank with fresh potable water.
5.8 Visually check the tank for cleanliness and close the drain valve.
5.9 Fill the tank with fresh water.
5.10 Record the cleaning activity in the cleaning record of soft water storage tank as per the given Annexure-I.
5.11 Inform QC for collecting water Samples.
5.12 Remove “Under Sanitization” Board and Start using the water after getting approval from the QA department.
Note: Cleaning of the tanks shall be carried out Quarterly. Wear Nose Mask, hand gloves and cap while cleaning the tanks.
