1.0 PURPOSE:
2.0 SCOPE:
3.0 DEFINITIONS:
4.0 RESPONSIBILITY:
4.1 Engineering officer / designee shall check that the activity is done as per SOP.
4.2 Engineering Head are responsible to ensure compliance of the SOP.
5.0 PROCEDURE:
5.1 Precautions & general conditions:
5.1.1 Use necessary safety wear like helmet, ear muffs and safety shoe.
5.1.2 Ensure power supply is available to the system.
5.1.3 Ensure that diesel pump battery charging is available up to the mark.
5.1.4 Ensure that no fire hydrant point is leaking.
5.1.5 Ensure the availability of the fire hydrant hose pipes and nozzle in the fire hydrant box near to the fire hydrant point.
5.1.6 Ensure that fire hydrant box door key is available at each box.
5.1.7 Ensure that no leakages are there in the fire hydrant line.
5.1.8 Ensure the diesel level in the day storage tank of the diesel pump.
5.2 Operation of fire hydrant system:
5.2.1 Before starting the system ensure that all the fire hydrant points are in closed condition.
5.2.2 Ensure that fire hydrant pump main valve is in open condition.
5.2.3 Check that fire hydrant system is in auto mode on the control panel.
5.2.4 For checking the routine working of the diesel pump put the system in manual mode and operate the diesel pump.
5.2.5 Ensure all the pressure settings to operate the jockey pump, main pump and diesel pump.
5.2.6 Fire hydrant system line pressure needs to be maintained always NLT 7.0 kg/cm2.
5.2.7 The pressure limits are as follows for the inline pumps:
5.2.7.1 Jockey Pump starts at 6.0 kg/cm2
5.2.7.2 Stops at 7.0 kg/cm2.
5.2.7.3 Main Pump starts at 5 kg/cm2.
5.2.7.4 Stops at 6.0 kg/cm2.
5.2.7.5 Diesel Pump Starts at 4.0 kg/cm2 and after reaching the design pressure need to stop the pump manually.
5.2.8 If the line pressure drops below 6.0 kg/cm2 the jockey pump will start and maintains the line pressure 7.0 kg/cm2 constantly.
5.2.9 If the line pressure drops below 5.0 kg/cm2 (any one point opens) and jockey pump unable to maintain the line pressure the main pump starts automatically and maintains the line pressure 6.0 kg/cm2.
5.2.10 The main pump remains on condition till the opened fire hydrant point closes, after closing the opened point the main pump stops automatically at 6.0 kg/cm2 and jockey pump works based on the pressure drop.
5.2.11 During running of the main pump if power failure occur or pressure is not sufficient and less than 4 kg/cm2 the diesel pump will start automatically to maintain the required pressure in the fire hydrant line.
5.2.12 The diesel pump need to be stop manually after reaching the design pressure in the line without any delay.
5.2.13 The system will be in continuous operation condition to maintain the fire hydrant line pressure.
5.2.14 Check the operation of the fire hydrant system on daily basis and update the operation log of fire hydrant system.
5.3 Maintenance of the fire hydrant system:
5.3.1 Minimum 2 fire hydrant points shall be checked once in a week for operation, pressure checking and pumps working / running condition purpose. Record the testing of fire hydrant point.
5.3.2 Check the control panel for any loose connections, indications glowing and proper dressing of electrical wirings.
5.3.3 During running of the pumps check for abnormalities, if found any rectify the same immediately.
5.3.4 Sleeve valve shall be checked for proper operation and working condition.
5.3.5 Required spares shall be maintained for the electrical pumps and diesel pump.
5.3.6 Check and ensure all the pressure gauges and pressure switches are in working condition and calibration of pressure gauges is within the validity period.
5.3.7 Battery shall be checked for proper working, if required charge the battery with battery charger or by running the diesel pump.
5.3.8 Check all the protecting guards are in place and properly fitted.
5.3.9 Check all the nut bolts of the fire hydrant system, if required tighten the fasteners.
5.4 Fire hydrant system water storage tank cleaning:
5.4.1 Clean the fire hydrant system water storage tank once in a year + 30 days and record the same in log sheet.
