Operation and maintenance of fire alarm system

1.0 PURPOSE:

To lay down procedure for operation and maintenance of fire alarm system.

2.0 SCOPE:

This procedure for operation and maintenance of fire alarm system is applicable to all user departments in (Company name).

3.0 DEFINITIONS:

Nil.

4.0 RESPONSIBILITY:

4.1 Engineering personnel is responsible to follow the SOP. 4.2 Engineering Head responsible for monitoring and implementation of this SOP.

5.0 PROCEDURE:

5.1 System and Security:
5.1.1 In the normal mode of operation control panel will display “PANEL HEALTHY” with current “TIME and DATE”.
5.1.2 Following detectors available in Plant.
5.1.2.1 Smoke detector
5.1.2.2 Heat detector
5.1.2.3 Flame proof detector
5.1.3 Whenever smoke/fire is detected, the sensor located in the area activates and passes signal to the control panel located in system and Security which in turn produces steady all sounder with flasher in all location both system as well as location.
5.1.4 On control panel the “FIRE ALARM” LED will glow in red color and display will give type of sensor activated and location of that sensor.
5.1.5 Type the password for main panel and security room Repeater panel.
5.1.6 Press “SILENCE” key and check the fault location & if it is not fault alarm then press “EVAC” Button.
5.1.7 If that is fault alarm press “RESET” button.
5.1.8 Fire Alarm Main panel is should indicate the below mentioned LED’s glow in yellow color.

5.1.8.6 Supervisory
5.1.8.7 Ground Fault
5.1.8.8 Maintenance

5.1.8.10 Test Mode
5.1.8.11 Sounder Disable
5.1.8.12 Disable
5.1.8.13 Delay Mode
5.1.8.14 Power
5.1.9 Find out the cause of sensor activation like smoke/dust/steam leak/electrical spark etc. Inform the persons working in the troubled area, Safety officer, Security department in case of any safety threats.
5.1.10 Rectify the trouble and clean the detector by filtered compressed air, after rectification of the trouble, press “RESET” key on the control panel, control panel will come to normal mode of operation.
5.1.11 In case sensor activation like Emergency or Fault condition also print facility available.
5.1.12 Record the nature of compliant/action taken in Fire Alarm monitoring Record as per Annexure-I.
5.2 Procedure for disabling of detector:
5.2.1 Detector to be enabling to carry out the maintenance/cleaning works.
5.2.2 Press “USER SETUP” key on display it asks password.
5.2.3 Enter the password by keypad.
5.2.4 Display will show enabling.
5.2.5 Press Disable/Enable key on that menu it will show. Then it will shows disable or enable devices.
5.2.6 Then press disable option then type zone number, detector number, type of detector. Than press “ENTER”.
5.3 Procedure for Challenging test:
5.3.1 Select particular area and produces the smoke automatically fire indication will show in panel and all sounder with flasher in all location will active.
5.3.2 Type the password for main panel and security room Repeater panel.
5.3.3 Press “SILENCE” key and press “RESET” button.
5.3.4 System comes to normal mode.
5.3.5 The alarm testing shall be carried out once in Quarterly ± 15 days.
