Operation and cleaning of anaeropack rectangular jar

1.0 PURPOSE:

To lay down a procedure for operation and cleaning of Anaeropack rectangular Jar used in Quality control laboratory.

2.0 SCOPE:

This procedure for operation and cleaning of Anaeropack rectangular Jar used in Quality control laboratory for incubation in anaerobic condition is applicable at (Company name).

3.0 DEFINITIONS:

Nil.

4.0 RESPONSIBILITY:

4.1 Analyst /Microbiologist: Responsible for execution of the procedure specified in SOP.
4.2 Head Quality Control/QA: Responsible for ensuring that the compliance to the procedure specified in this SOP. 

5.0 PROCEDURE:

5.1 Preliminary check:
5.1.1 Check and ensure that the equipment is clean and suitable for starting the operation.
5.1.2 Check and ensure the gasket of Anaeropack rectangular jar.
5.2 Basic operation:
5.2.1 Make sure that top is securely placed on the bottom. To securely close the top, two opposite sides of the latch must be pressed at the same time. To open the top, two opposite sides of the latch must be lifted at the same time.
5.2.2 After unlatching, if the top is difficult to open, lift one corner to release the negative pressure.
5.2.3 Load the cultures (or) plates (or) tubes (or) bottles into the jar.
5.2.4 Keep two anaerobic gas pack of 3.5-liter pack with anaero indicator tablet and immediately replace the lid on the jar and secure it with latches.
5.2.5 Incubate the jar at required temperature for the required period.
5.2.6 After incubation, remove the latches and open the lid and the end of the activity clean the Jar with routine disinfectant/mild cleaning agent.
5.3 Cleaning:
5.3.1 Check and ensure that the equipment is clean and suitable for starting the operation. If it is not, then clean with a soft cloth dipped in routine disinfectant/mild cleaning agent.
5.4 Precautions:
5.4.1 DO NOT Autoclave.
5.4.2 Opening and closing of Anaeropack should be done with opposite latches at the same time.
