Operating Procedure of Chilled Water System

1.0 PURPOSE:

To define the operating procedure of chilled water system.

2.0 SCOPE:

The SOP for Operating Procedure of Chilled Water System is applicable to chilled water system at (Company name).

3.0 DEFINITION:

Chiller Water System: Chilled water is often used to cool a building air and equipment, especially in situation where many individual rooms must be controlled separately. In mid- to large-scale commercial, industrial, and institutional facilities, chilled water is utilized for air cooling and dehumidification purposes.

4.0 RESPONSIBILITY:

4.1 Personnel engineering is responsible to perform the operation of chilled water system. 
4.2 Head-engineering is responsible to ensure the compliance of the procedure.

5.0 PROCEDURE:

5.1 Ensure that the makeup water tank is filled with water.
5.2 Ensure that the valves for circulation pumps and chilled water lines are open.
5.3 Switch ON the power supply to the water circulation pumps from utility panel.
5.4 Start the pumps by pressing ‘ON’ switch in the VFD panel, if it is in manual mode, otherwise keep this in auto mode.
5.5 Switch ON the main supply for the chiller unit main panel.
5.6 Start the chiller unit by pressing ‘auto’ from interface.
5.7 Automatically condenser coil fans and compressors will start within 180 second interval of time.
5.8 Chiller will control the water temperature.
5.9 At the time of shutting OFF the plant, just press ‘stop’ in the interface.
5.10 Stop the chilled water pump by pressing ‘stop’ in VFD panel and turn off the power supply from the utility panel.

Note: Under normal condition, changeover of circulating pumps is to be carried out, on weekly basis.
