Procedure for cleaning of RO membrane

1.0 PURPOSE:

To lay down the procedure for cleaning of RO membrane.

2.0 SCOPE:

This procedure for cleaning of RO membrane is applicable to RO system at (Company name).

3.0 DEFINITION:

Nil

4.0 RESPONSIBILITY:

4.1 Personnel engineering is responsible for cleaning of RO membrane.
4.2 Head-engineering/designee is responsible to ensure the compliance of the
procedure.

5.0 FREQUENCY:

RO Membrane Cleaning: Before Completion of three months or if conductivity of RO outlet water more than 95 µs/cm or RO inlet pressure is more than 10 Kg/cm2, Chemical Sanitization: As per intimation received from Quality control department.

6.0 PROCEDURE:

6.1 Chemical Sanitization of RO membrane:

6.1.1 Remove cartridge of the 5µ cartridge filter, RO membranes and media of pressure sand filter.
6.1.2 Prepare 5 ppm solution of NaOCl in the raw water tank. (2L NaOCl in 400 L water)
6.1.3 Circulate the NaOCl solution in the loop and drain. Continue circulation and draining for 30 minutes to 1 hour.
6.1.4 After that flush the RO system for 30 minutes.

6.2 Cleaning of RO membrane:

6.2.1 Using high pH chemical:

6.2.1.1 Prepare the high pH solution using 2 KG High pH chemical INDION 2814 or 1 L high pH chemical PENNTREAT 1509 in 100 L purified water.
6.2.1.2 Dismantle the inlet of raw water pump and fix a flexible pipe (PVC) to pass the Chemicals to RO system.
6.2.1.3 Bypass PSF replace the cartridge of cartridge filter and pump the chemicals through it.
6.2.1.4 Drain the chemicals/water (muddy) from the first RO housing by opening its outlet.
6.2.1.5 When clear water appears to be drained from RO housing 1, close the entire RO membrane circuit and hold the high pH solution for 15 minutes and drain the waste water / solution of both the RO housing till the consumption of whole 100 L solution.
6.2.1.6 Then flush with RO water for one hour.

6.2.2 Using low pH chemical:

6.2.2.1 Prepare the low pH solution using 2KG low pH chemical INDION 2811 or 1 L low pH chemical PENNTREAT 1507 in 100 L purified water.
6.2.2.2 Dismantle the inlet of raw water pump and fix a flexible pipe (PVC) to pass the
chemicals to RO system.
6.2.2.3 Bypass PSF replace the cartridge of cartridge filter and pump the chemicals through it.
6.2.2.4 Drain the chemicals/water (muddy) from the first RO housing by opening its outlet.
6.2.2.5 When clear water appears to be drained from RO housing 1, close the entire RO membrane circuit and hold the low pH solution for 15 minutes and drain the waste water / solution of both the RO housing till the consumption of whole 100 L solution.
6.2.2.6 Then flush with RO water for one hour.
6.2.2.7 At last assemble PSF and all the parts and finally flash the RO system with raw
water for 15 minutes.
